AlgeNatura is a Norwegian technology company that produces sustainable feed through patented photobioreactor technology. The company was founded in autumn 2020 by the Norwegian company Algæ AS and Icelandic SagaNatura ehf. and aims to help solve the major challenges in today's feed production.
In an early phase, the company received support from Innovation Norway to conduct an analysis of market potential and establish the framework for the company's business strategy. The Research Council of Norway has contributed significant funds for the implementation of the Algekylling project, in collaboration with NIBIO, Norsk Kylling and Norgesfôr. Funds from our private investors, as well as support from Telemark Development Fund (TUF) with its purpose of contributing to sustainable business development in Telemark, have been crucial for us to deliver algae biomass to our agreed projects today.
Further development is primarily taking place at Herøya Industrial Park, where the expansion opportunities are substantial. There is also a fantastic competence environment with extensive experience that contributes to realizing our plans. Our goal is to build an annual production capacity of at least 10-12,000 tonnes of dried biomass at Herøya by 2029-2030. Among others, we are involved in a feasibility study together with Sirkulære Rjukan, Rjukan Business Development, the University of South-Eastern Norway and Telemark County Council, but we know that other locations are also relevant.
The government has defined sustainable and increased Norwegian feed production as an important societal mission to strengthen food security and reduce the climate footprint. With our technology and ambition, we are well positioned to contribute to this mission. During the winter of 2025/26, we will carry out a capital raise that will give us a solid foundation for our planned scaling up, while we also believe in grants and loans from the public funding system.
